While I prepared for Chartered Accountancy, we had papers on Management, Financial Management etc. The topics included what are different goals of an organisation like wealth maximization, profit maximization etc.
The take of Jamshedji Tata shows a more responsible one:
"... the purpose of an enterprise is to serve the community..."
You know, 67% of the dividend from the group goes to community services.
